# Internships and first jobs in Rwanda: where to begin
Where to start
A first job search should produce evidence of what you can do. Choose a field, read several current employer adverts and write down the skills they repeatedly require. Then complete a small project, training task or supervised placement that demonstrates one or two of those skills. Describe the task, your contribution and the result on your CV.
The official Professional Internship Portal accepts graduate applications through its online system. MIFOTRA's announcement of employment platforms explains that the internship portal connects graduates with industry, while Kora helps jobseekers explore opportunities. Each programme still has its own eligibility and current openings; a past intake or headline is not proof that applications are open today.
Evaluate the placement
Before accepting, ask for the host organisation, supervisor, duties, working location, dates and any allowance or expense terms in writing. Make sure you know how work will be assessed and what record you can keep for future applications. Do not hand original certificates to an unverified intermediary.
For international internships, follow the programme's own portal. The UN Careers guide starts with a specific opening and its eligibility rules. A role in Kigali may still have restrictions on education, languages or nationality; read the full description.
After a placement, update your CV with concrete work rather than only the internship title. A small, reliable accomplishment and a supervisor who can confirm it will help you apply for entry-level roles with confidence.
